The short version. Your expenses are never sent to us. They are written to your own cloud storage — your Google Drive or your iCloud — encrypted on your phone before they leave it, and only your account can unlock them.
We run no server that could receive your expenses and no database that could hold them.
Signing in creates an account with Firebase Authentication, operated by Google on our behalf. That account holds:
That is the whole of it. It tells us who you are. It never tells us what you spend.
Your book — every expense, category, profile, card and rate you record — is stored in your own cloud account: the private application folder of your Google Drive, or your private iCloud database. It counts against your storage, not ours, and we have no access to it.
Before anything is written there, it is encrypted on your phone. The key is kept in the same private folder as the book, which only AsPaid signed in as you can open — so a new phone gets your expenses back by signing in, with nothing to type and nothing to keep.
If you never sign in and never turn syncing on, your book never leaves the device at all.
It means a copy of the file on its own is useless: a bad share link, a leaked backup, a lost or stolen device, or anyone who gets at the storage without the account. None of them can read a single expense.
It does not protect against Google or Apple themselves. The book and its key both sit in storage they operate, so in principle they could open it. We never receive either, and we have nothing to hand over — but we would rather say that plainly than claim a protection that is not there.
AsPaid is an expense book, not a password manager. We decided that making every owner keep a 50-character key safe against the day they lose their phone cost more than it was worth.
The app uses three Firebase services, all operated by Google:
To convert an amount the app fetches published rates from two public services, ExchangeRate-API and Frankfurter. The request asks for a currency and a date. It carries no account, no identifier and no amount, so neither service can learn anything about your spending.
Reminders for recurring expenses and card payment dates are scheduled by your phone, for your phone. Nothing is sent to or from a server to deliver them, and you can turn them off in your device settings or in the app.
Your book. Settings → Delete everything removes it, and its key, from the device and from your cloud storage. You can also delete the AsPaid folder directly from your Google Drive or iCloud account at any time.
Your account. Ask us at the address below and we will delete the Firebase account — the user id and email described above — within 30 days.
AsPaid is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we hold or what we do with it, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect, not only on this page.
